Do you wish you could travel more, but don't want to travel alone?

I have a girlfriend who is out-going and adventuress.  She has traveled throughout 3rd world countries alone.  In South American she stays with local families and venturing forth daily with a jeep and surf board.  She can talk to anyone (and often does).  This is NOT me.  I need more structure and prefer to stay in 4 star licensed accommodations when traveling alone, for safety and convenience.  This does not mean big chain hotels…as there are plenty of small boutique inns and family owned hotels to choose from.

If “Big bus tours” aren’t appealing, there are many small, specialty group tours available on land and sea. Consider a cruise or specialty land tour as a comfortable and safe way to travel solo but not alone.  While many cruise lines charge a significant “Single Supplement” charge (usually 200% of cruise fare), there are several cruises that have single cabins or waive the single supplement on specific sailings.

River cruises are one of my favorite solo traveler trips.  With only 90 passengers, opening dining and small group walking and even bike tours, they are the perfect solo - but not alone - vacations for me. Ama Waterways offers a couple of Single cabins on several cruises.
